Conventional caustic treating systems for acid reduction of kerosene and jet fuel streams come with a host of problems—chiefly emulsions that result from mixing and settling caustic treatment. To address these problems, a refinery in Venezuela installed Merichem Technologies’ NAPFINING™ and AQUAFINING™ technologies, which include FIBER FILM® Contactors. Using this patented non-dispersive method, the company was able to consistently and cost-effectively lower the acidity while minimizing the formation of emulsions and water carry‑over.
