OXYTRAP® O2 Adsorbent
Oxygen Removal for Gas Streams Containing H2S
Contact Us for More Information on OXYTRAP®
Economically achieve low O2 in sour gas streams. Easy.
Removing oxygen from Natural Gas to comply with specifications for pipeline transportation can be challenging. The presence of oxygen in Natural Gas can not only cause safety issues, but also negatively affect the profitability of your process.
OxyTrap® is a cost-effective and environmentally friendly oxygen scavenger that helps you meet a low O2 spec and decrease your overall treating costs.
OxyTrap® is a patented iron based solid scavenger that requires a short in-situ sulfidation period that activates the scavenger to remove oxygen from a gas stream. Unlike commonly used oxygen removal systems, OxyTrap® does NOT require changes in temperature or high capital investment cost. It is a simplistic scavenger system that requires minimal operator control.

Eliminate O2 Related Corrosion and Preserve Your Amine Unit Performance
Natural gas in transportation to an amine unit processing facility can contain varying concentrations of hydrogen sulfide and oxygen. Oxygen is highly corrosive to amine equipment and will degrade amine performance which increases treating cost and maintenance time. OxyTrap® can remove the oxygen from the sour gas upstream of the amine unit helping preserve the amine unit and related system operation.
Make Abandoned Gas Streams Profitable Again
Many well-head gas streams are contaminated with oxygen and sulfur and must be abandoned due to high treating costs. Unlike a typical oxygen removal system that cannot operate in gas streams containing sulfur, OxyTrap® thrives in gas streams containing BOTH oxygen and sulfur. OxyTrap® will selectively remove oxygen from these abandoned gas streams making them profitable assets once again!

Avoid Pipeline Corrosion Caused by Oxygen
OxyTrap® will help reduce the corrosion in your pipeline. With gas streams being transported via compression or vacuum, the presence of low concentrations of oxygen in gas streams is almost inevitable. Oxygen is problematic because it is a strong oxidant and can accelerate the corrosion caused by H2S and CO2. Piping corrosion can result in gas leaks and safety concerns as well as extended repair downtime. OxyTrap® is a reliable and economic oxygen scavenger that reduces O2 levels to help avoid these safety concerns and interruptions.
Remove Oxygen Without Product CO2
One of the more well-known technologies for oxygen removal is catalytic oxidation. However, catalytic oxidation can be problematic because of the CO2 that it produces. OxyTrap® does NOT produce CO2. OxyTrap® is an iron based solid scavenger that reacts with oxygen to produce iron oxide species and elemental sulfur. No more problematic CO2!

O2 REMOVAL PROCESS
In typical configurations, OxyTrap® is loaded into a single vertical vessel, a lead-lag vessel configuration or a parallel vessel configuration where the gas or vapor which has higher H2S to O2 ratio flows through the vessel. The H2S and O2 chemically react with OxyTrap® to form a safe, stable, non-hazardous spent byproduct. Depletion of the OxyTrap® O2 scavenger is dependent only upon the concentration of hydrogen sulfide and oxygen and flow rate through the bed. OxyTrap® is optimized for use in close to water saturated gas conditions, but is also effective in partially saturated to dry gas conditions.

OxyTrap® can be used in upstream, midstream and downstream natural gas purification:
- Well-head natural gas
- Landfill gas
- Biogas
- Gas processing facilities
- Refinery vent gas and/or off-gas
